EDUCATOR & WRITER
Indira Chavarria, who wrote the Foreword to Welcome to Irie Park, is an educator, who has taught at all levels of education, a writer, an aspiring poet, a lay minister, and a faith-filled individual. She is currently a lecturer, department chair, and field internship supervisor for student teachers at St. John’s Junior College, Belize’s leading Catholic Jesuit Junior College, where she is now putting into practice the formal training received from the University College of Belize where she pursued her first degree in secondary education with an emphasis in English and her MEd. in teaching and literacy from the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada.
She is also a former religion and reading teacher and Mass coordinator at Belize Elementary School, a leading Catholic-oriented private primary school in Belize, as well as a former teacher of morality and ethics at the technologically-oriented, privately owned Belize High School, and have served in an adjunct capacity at the University of Belize.
Teaching is one of her passions, but doing God’s work is indeed her true vocation and she carries out this call in her role as board member on Voices for Life and the Belize Reading Council. She also occupies her time learning more about God through formal Bible study classes and by engaging in narrative/life writing and poetry. Additionally, she is a part of the writing team collaborating on a conversion book that seeks to chronicle the conversion of Belizean women. Ms. Chavarria, who intends to assist and share her knowledge and expertise at the various levels of education, lives her life as best as possible in doing God’s will and following the promptings of the Holy Spirit.
